My First Professional Showcase
After a week of rehearsing, it was time to go on. Here's everything that happened — and what it felt like to be there.
THE STORY
We flew into Hollywood on Monday and everything kicked off on Wednesday morning. I was paired with two boys I never met and given a scene to rehearse for the showcase. After all the anticipation, I was ready to get started.
The next 5 days can be summed up in three words: practice, practice, practice. We worked from 8:45 am until 6:00 pm memorizing lines and getting direction from our coaches. It was long days but I had the time of my life working with everyone.
Along with our scenes, I was told I could perform my Spanish monologue in the second part of the showcase. I was so excited to show everyone I am bilingual. After all of the practice, we were ready to go. The showcase was the next day and I wondered how I was going to sleep with all of my nerves and excitement.
Right before you go on, you're the most nervous. Right after, you can't wait to do it again
WHAT CAME NEXT
The showcase was fantastic! Our scene didn't happen until Act 2 which allowed us to watch all of the Act 1 performances and everyone was nailing it. The coaches performed a hilarious skit to start the show and the audience loved it.
When it was time for us to go on, I wasn't nervous at all, just super excited to show what I could do. All three of us were right on time and performed perfectly. The audience loved it and I came off the stage very happy and confident.
I completed my Spanish monologue and that went great. All of the actors did so well and the agents and managers cheered as the showcase ended. It was the most exciting night ever. The next morning we taped our scene in an official Hollywood studio and got to experience what filming is really like. I'll never forget this week and can't wait until the next showcase.
